French carrier CMA CGM and U.S. investment firm Stonepeak announced the formation of United Ports LLC, a U.S.-based joint venture that will acquire ten major port terminals operated by CMA CGM worldwide with an initial $2.4 billion investment from Stonepeak for a 25 % minority stake, while CMA CGM retains 75 % ownership and full operational control. The transaction encompasses key facilities including Los Angeles Fenix Marine Services, Port Liberty in New York and Bayonne (U.S.), Santos (Brazil), CSP Valencia and CSP Bilbao, Terminal Marítima del Guadalquivir and TTI Algeciras (Spain), Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal (India), CMA CGM Kaohsiung Terminal (Taiwan), and Gemalink in Cai Mep (Vietnam). CMA CGM plans to reinvest the $2.4 billion proceeds into the continued growth of its core businesses, while the partnership with Stonepeak —which may contribute up to an additional $3.6 billion for future joint projects— aims to strengthen investment capacity in strategically located terminals, secure access to key gateways and enhance service quality for clients, with the deal expected to close in the second half of 2026.
